In 1954 Marlon Brando came to Bandol, a small town near Toulon, to visit his fiancée Josanne Mariani-Bérenger; daughter of a fisherman. Brando liked Bandol, since nobody really knew who he was. At first he refused to be photographed, but later he came out for a walk along the harbour and even smiled when he saw the photographer: Brando announced his engagement to the press. However, the love affair ended abruptly when he returned to America.
