Atelier Marinière’s women’s cognac and powder striped Breton shirt offers a softer, warmer take on the classic marinière. Made in Italy from 100% organic cotton, it features a boat neck, oversized fit and a mid-weight knit that feels comfortable throughout the year. The subtle, muted stripes pair well with denim, linen or tailoring for relaxed, modern outfits. With only 99 pieces produced, it’s a limited edition striped sailor top with a gentle, contemporary colour story.

Made in Italy

Our Breton Shirts are crafted just a few kilometers from Venice, in a region known for its rich artisanal heritage and its role in producing garments for the world’s top high-fashion brands.

Each piece is meticulously made from premium cotton, sourced from a renowned Italian mill in Biella, celebrated for its exceptional quality, softness, and breathability—perfect for year-round comfort.

We collaborate with a small, family-run workshop, fostering a partnership built on trust, craftsmanship, and a passion for quality—values that define every garment we create.

The Marinière

When it comes to iconic apparel, few items combine timeless style and function like the Marinière. Much like blue jeans, this traditional striped shirt has evolved over the past century, transforming from a practical uniform worn by sailors into an everyday staple for men and women around the world. The Marinière certainly isn’t tied to a particular time of year either - one of the best things about it is its year-round appeal.

Fit

The oversized fit, the
dropped sleeves and wide boat neck are hallmarks of our design. Taken together, they represent a unique, modern and fashionable update of this classic look, making them perfect for every outfit.

Available from S to L. We recommend ordering your normal size. Consult our sizing chart for the correct measurements. If you prefer a slimmer fit, order a size down. If you are unsure or need some advice, send us a message and we will be happy to help.

Fabric & Care

We craft our Breton Shirts in Italy using a manual loom, ensuring each piece is meticulously knitted rather than cut from pre-printed fabric. Every sweater is made by skilled artisans, using over 2.5 kilometers of raw yarn, preserving the authenticity of traditional craftsmanship.

To keep your Breton Shirt looking its best, hand wash or machine wash at 30°C, then hang to dry. If needed, iron inside out or use steam to remove creases.

Handmade Embroidery

Our Marinières are hand embroidered with needle and thread, making each one unique.

Each pieces is also hand numbered, from 1 to 99.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping is free.

Once your Marinière is dispatched, you'll receive an email with tracking details. We ship all over the world. And if you’re based in the EU, we will be sending your items directly from Italy so that you won’t incur additional customs fees.

If for any reason you wanted to return your Marinière, we accept returns within 14 days of delivery as long as the Marinièere is in perfect condition.

The Breton Shirt, Reworked

We took the idea of the classic marinière (also called Breton Shirt) and reworked it with a different intention: lighter, softer, and more fluid on the body. The stripes stay, but the proportions change — a looser cut, a slightly widened boat neck, and a fit that feels relaxed rather than strict. Knitted cotton yark gives the piece a refined texture and an ease that’s very different from the traditional sailor shirt. Familiar in spirit, redesigned in everything else.

Knitted Near Venice

Our Breton Shirts come from just outside Venice, from a place where certain things are still done with intent.
We chose a small family workshop not for romance, but for the way they work: measured, exact, and uninterested in shortcuts.
There’s no mythology, no folklore — just people who know their craft and let the results speak.
The result is a piece shaped by people who take their time, work with intention, and pay attention to the details that define everything else.

Why Only 99 Pieces

Limiting each collection to 99 pieces is a choice, not a gimmick. Producing in small numbers allows us to focus on quality at a level that isn’t possible with volume — no shortcuts, no overstock, no pieces waiting to be discounted. What we make is exactly what we stand behind, and the price you see is the price it will always be. When you find your number on the label, you’re holding one of only 99 pieces created with that intention.
