The Striped Breton Shirt, also known as Striped Sailor Shirt or in French as the Marinière, is a timeless icon of casual elegance and a symbol of the French art de vivre. Atelier Marinière gives this classic a modern twist with a reinterpretation that features a slightly oversized fit. Crafted from premium merino wool (sourced from Tollegno1900 mills), this versatile piece is made from a naturally thermo-regulating fiber, ensuring warmth without overheating.

Limited to just 99 pieces, each numbered in the order they are sold. Made in Italy and hand-knit by our skilled artisans.

Made in Italy

Our marinière are crafted just a few kilometers from Venice, in a region renowned for its artisanal expertise and its role in producing garments for some of the world’s most famous high-fashion brands. Each piece is meticulously made from fine merino wool, celebrated for its natural softness and thermo-regulating properties. We work closely with a small, family-run workshop, fostering a partnership built on trust, craftsmanship, and a shared passion for quality.

Merino Wool from Italy

We have chosen one of the best manufacturers in the world of merino wool: Tollegno 1900. It is a historic Italian company specializing in the production of the highest quality wools. Located in the town of Tollegno, in the province of Biella, at the foot of the Piedmont Alps, Tollegno 1900 operates ethically and holds the most important eco-certifications in the textile industry, making it a green and sustainable company.

Handmade Embroidery

Our Marinières are hand embroidered with needle and thread, making each one unique.

Each pieces is also hand numbered, from 1 to 99.

Fit

The oversized fit, the dropped sleeves and wide boat neck are hallmarks of our design. Taken together, they represent a unique, modern and fashionable update of this classic look, making them perfect for every outfit.

Fabric & Care

We produce the marinière in Italy on a manual loom. This means that we do not cut the various parts from ready-made printed fabrics; rather, each sweater is knitted by skilled artisans from more than 2 and a half kilometers of raw yarn.

To keep your Marinière looking its best, hand wash or machine wash at 30 degrees, then hang to dry. If needed, iron inside out or steam to take out creases.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping is free worldwide.

Once your Marinière is dispatched, you'll receive an email with tracking details. We ship all over the world. And if you’re based in the EU, we will be sending your items directly from Italy so that you won’t incur additional customs fees.

If for any reason you wanted to return your Marinière, we accept returns within 14 days of delivery as long as the Marinièere is in perfect condition.
